Driving Engagement in Education with Technology

True to its motto that ‘change begins with education’, SeeBeyondBorders’ Educational Technology (EdTech) project, with the ongoing support of Electric Aid, strives for positive change for Cambodian primary education. This is done through empowering educators by providing technological resources in local teachers’ classrooms for the first time, as well as training on the skills to use them into the future.

The success of this project is plain to see in Ek Phnom District of Battambang, Cambodia, where EdTech brings an immersive learning experience to classrooms. Here, for example, students learn problems like maths fractions by piecing digital tiles together, and are thoroughly engaged through the learning process. With EdTech, students are not audience members in a classroom; they are part of the intellectual process. EdTech harnesses students’, teachers’ and society’s growing digital literacy to build a more engaging and effective learning experience for all.

Progress through the Years

This August, SeeBeyondBorders had the opportunity to share the EdTech project’s progress during the Connect Cambodia and Ireland visit. During this visit, teachers visiting from Ireland witnessed first-hand the work of SeeBeyondBorders, and for visitors returning for a second year, it offered an opportunity to see the progress made twelve-months-on.

During my time here this year, I have seen the enormous progress of the EdTech project in Battambang. It’s truly remarkable within a year the progress that’s been made on these EdTech resources, and ElectricAid has been a major part of this.

Building Technological Partnerships

Beyond the classroom, SeeBeyondBorders also attended BETT Asia 2024 as this year’s selected Charity Partner. The conference on leadership and innovation in educational technology was centred around the theme Powering Up Education. BETT Asia’s mission of transforming education through technology aligns strongly with the aims of SeeBeyondBorders’ EdTech project, and offered an opportunity for the SeeBeyondBorders team to learn from and engage with many pioneers of technology-driven education.

From positive change in the classroom for teachers and students to international collaboration, it is clear that SeeBeyondBorders’ EdTech project, supported by ElectricAid, is paving the way for the future of Cambodian primary education. The project’s dedication to connection with students, with teachers and with the larger educational community is akin to the digital fraction blocks students in Ek Phnom District fit together: each serving as a piece in the jigsaw. When placed together, a picture of a new era of Cambodian education emerges.
